PUPPY PURCHASE INFORMATION:

Great you have decided to purchase a puppy!! Dogs bring so much love and joy into your life. Yorkshire Terriers are very loving, confident dogs. They are well mannered and extremely loyal. They will be your shadow from here on out!

Before you bring your puppy home PUPPY PROOF it. Pick up any small objects that can be swallowed, put your shoes away, etc.

Make a space for the puppy. I recommend an IRIS crate from Walmart or Amazon.com. The IRIS crate is a small gated play area that gives your puppy enough room to sleep, play, eat, and go potty. Put your puppy in the crate when you leave the house and when you are not able to supervise him/her. You can also put your puppy in the crate at night. We crate train the puppies before they leave us so they should be comfortable with a crate environment. If your puppy cries in the crate say NO loud enough for your puppy to understand that whining is unacceptable. By the third cry - your puppy will get it and stay quiet. Put food, water, toy, pee pad and bed in the crate.

Feeding: Feed your dog according to food instructions on the bag/can. As breeders we free feed, meaning there is always food out and available to our dogs and they can eat as they please.

Food Recommendations: Taste of the Wild, FROMM foods & Solid Gold are my favorite high quality dog foods. They are available at Pet Supermarket. There are others that I like : natures recipe, Royal canine and Pedigree. One important thing about picking a dog food is to look at the ingredients. You don't want your dog eating too much corn, filler or yeast based products. Our dogs are fed Taste of the Wild, it is a top quality food and our dogs and puppies love it!

Walks: Taking your puppy on walks is essential to them learning to be potty trained. We start the puppies on pee pads. They are let out daily in a fenced outdoor area to learn how to use the bathroom outside. We don't leash train. The best way to teach your puppy to walk on a leash is to use a harness and talk your puppy threw it. They will be uncomfortable at first but eventually will get the hang of it. Walk in front of puppy and say "come on" snap clap and use baby talk to encourage your little pup.

Vet Care: We vaccinate our puppies with a 5 way vaccine, Nasal Bordatella and deworm with Panacure powder dewormer. Our puppies are checked by a licensed vet and receive health certificates prior to going to their new homes. As for continuing vet care your puppy will to need to get a rabies vaccine and a annual 5 way vaccine each year.

Training: Its important to train your dog! They want to learn too!! Yorkies have a short attention span so you should spend 5-10 minutes with them each day teaching them a new trick. Use small treats or milk bones.

HYPOGLYCEMIA: This is a condition that occurs due to low blood sugar. It can be dangerous if not treated. Hypoglycemia attacks are caused by your puppy overworking him/herself and using all energy. Smaller puppies are the most at risk! To prevent this make sure your puppy is fed frequently. Symptoms of hypoglycemia is head tilting, shaky body, weakness, state of confusion. If it is mild you may treat it at home by giving the puppy some honey, ice cream or jelly. Put the puppy in a calm dark area so they can sleep it off. Also try to give it water. Make sure the puppy has food when your gone. You can give your pup pieces of sugary cereal throughout the day. If you have been gone all day give your pup some cereal right before you play with him/her. Sometimes pups rather eat when you're home and will holdout until you get there.

Vaccinations: We self vaccinate our puppies with Vanguard Plus 5 - By Pfizer.
This vaccine is called a 5 way DHPP Puppy shot. It protects against canine distemper, canine hepatitis, adenovirus cough (kennel cough), parainfluenza, and parvovirus.
We vaccinate all of our puppies at home. We do this for a few reasons. First reason being their health. We do not want our puppies picking up any germs or sicknesses from the vet's office. Also car rides can be stressful for small puppies.
We want their surroundings to be as stress free as possible. The vaccination takes less than a minute to administer. We quickly provide the puppy with a treat after inoculation. The puppies are so happy to have a piece of cheese they do not even know they just had a shot!We are able to closely observe the puppies to make sure they are not experiencing any adverse reactions.
Its quick, easy and convenient. All shot labels and records are provided at the time you pick up your puppy.

Supplies:

Pet pen - IRIS crate from walmart.com/amazon/petco

Pee Pee Pads - reusable or disposable

Pet Bed

Harness - Always use a harness to walk your dog.

Cloth leash - Retractible leashes are dangerous for puppies, stick to cloth leashes until your pup is older.

Ear cleaner - Natur vet Aller-911 Ear wash (Pet Supermarket)

Pet nail trimmer - I use toe nail clippers on puppies.

Grooming:
Yorkie grooming has to be done every 2 weeks, at least. Their coats should be washed with a neutral shampoo and deep conditioned with a moisturizing conditioner. Trim their nails with toe nail clippers by removing a very small amount of the nail. Pour an ear cleaner in their ears, gently clean debris with cotton balls and q tips. (do not probe with q tip). Blow dry and brush the coat out.

If you are unable to care for a puppy you purchased from us please contact us ASAP!!

Potty Training: So you've got your dream puppy home with you and your wondering how to potty train him/her. This is a long process. The main thing to keep in mind is not to get frustrated. The puppy will learn it just takes consistent practice and a standard routine. My suggestion is to teach your puppy how to walk on a leash as early as possible. The more you take the puppy on walks the more they will learn to do their business outside. It will take 6-8 months for your puppy to be housebroken. Don't get overwhelmed or discouraged. We use pee pee pads while the pups are with us. Once they reach 5-6 weeks old they learn how to go outside on the grass to do their business. The puppies usually learn quick from watching their adult Yorkie family. So your new puppy has been taught the basics of house training before they come to you. It is your job to work out a training plan, and to pick out the best urinator cleaning spray when accidents happen. When your puppy is still young they will have to go potty very shortly after eating/drinking. Working out a planned feeding time will help. Also i recommend the IRIS crate and rewashable pee pee pads - listed under supplies. The crate is big enough for the pup to use the bathroom on the pee pee pad and still have room to lay down.

All puppies are sold as pets. Please be advised that the puppies are not sold as breeding or show quality unless specified otherwise. No warranties or guarantees are made by the breeder about the breeding qualities of the puppy.
